Wetlands Tour Bogota Overview
Who would have imagined that there exists a fascinating natural wonder right in the heart of Bogota - Colombia’s biggest city? The wetlands of the Sabana (savanna) de Bogota is where the rivers slow down a bit to rest on the plateau and “clean up” after flowing down from mountains. The water then continues to flow into the valleys to rejoin with the rivers below, including the Bogotá and Magdalena rivers.
Here you will encounter plants that transform pollutants into natural medicines, fruits that can be placed directly on the skin as a soothing facial mask and beautiful fragrant flowers native to the wetlands.
Your guide, Carlota, has a wealth of knowledge about the history and uses of the flora and fauna of this region, the processes of the wetlands and its relationship with the surrounding eco-systems. She has experience working as an environmental engineer and has spent much of her life learning and teaching about Colombia’s incredible natural environment and resources while working to protect them.
